Walk Through Optical Illusion Mirror Maze

Introduction

The Concept – HAPPY ZOO ADVENTURE in MIRROR MAZE

Synopsys: A walk through optical illusion adventure is a fascinating experience and life size puzzle for all ages but this design has features tailored to appeal to children but which adults will also enjoy. There are safety features such as no sharp surfaces or objects and all mirrors are safety non shatter type.

This project has artefacts (3 dimensional montages) of happy animals in cartoon style. It’s explained that this is a Happy Zoo – all the animals are well fed and friendly. The challenge is to find a way through the zoo meeting the animals as you go. There are some distorting mirrors so children can make funny faces and see themselves in funny shapes.

Through the curtained portico and onto the Rickety Bridge which spans a deed deep chasm. It seems bottomless and the bridge is none too solid so visitors don’t linger and are happy to reach the other side safely. (Safety note: no risk at all is involved as the illusion of depth is achieved by a clever use of mirrors).

Then into the walk-through optical illusion adventure proper. The walk-through optical illusion adventure is lit in ever changing brilliant LED colours and spread out in different sections creating a kaleidoscope of coloured effects. What is seen is an illusion where visitors see themselves and friends endlessly repeated and as they move so new patterns appear.

Visitors move through the walk-through optical illusion adventure with funny results like finding they have gone in a circle and are back to where they started or ended up in a dead end. At one point it looks as though the Exit has been found but its trick and your own face stares back at you.

Passing what seems to be a regular mirror it suddenly disappears and there is an elephant. He trumpets, raises his trunk in a Salaam and blows a jet of air, big surprise!

As visitors find their way forward, they meet other zoo characters: there’s a cheeky monkey swinging on his perch to a happy little tune; two big yellow eyes in the night, oh my, but light comes up and its Khan the tiger who’s moves out of the jungle smiling; then we find Baloo the big brown bear and he likes pop music and is swaying along to a tune.

Eventually the goal chamber is reached - six curtained arches which one is the proper exit? Another challenge. Pulling curtains aside reveals what seems a way out but loops you back to the chamber. Another shows a brick wall, another you can see yourself but through bars so no way there. Finally, it’s realised that the route is through a dark passage but that’s not scary because birds and parrots are twittering and the animals are saying “Come back soon” in various languages.

After the exit there is time for selfies with a difference – sitting in the photo booth which with a mirror illusion multiplies one into many! A happy ending and souvenir.
